What is an STI?
-Infectious diseases caused by pathogens transmitted through some form of sexual contact.


-Term STI is more appropriate to use than STD because term "disease" is only used with conditions that cause visible symptoms.

HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It attacks the bodies immune system which impairs your ability to fight off infections. If left untreated it can lead to AIDS.

AIDS stands for Auto Immunodeficiency Syndrome. AIDS occurs when your immune system is so badly damaged from HIV, you can no longer fight off infections.

How HIV is Spread:


Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is a form of treatment that involves taking several forms of HIV medicine (HIV Regimen) everyday.

ART is recommended for all people that have HIV, no matter how long they have had it.

Each student in the group is responsible for three of the topics below. * As a group you are responsible for creating your own Wiki covering the topics assigned. You may attach files, articles, videos, pictures and/or word documents. Be prepared to give your reports orally to the class using your Wik page. Included in your report should be a description of the infectious disease, who it affects, treatment and prognosis.
